Statement by John Bozzella, Global Automakers President and CEO WASHINGTON, DC, DECEMBER 2, 2014 – Global Automakers members support Toyota’s statement today regarding a collaborative effort among automakers to initiate independent third-party testing of Takata airbag inflators. Global Automakers believes this action is another important aspect of the continuing investigation into these issues.
Our members take vehicle safety very seriously and strive to develop robust and reliable products. Cars on the road today are among the safest we have ever seen. Traffic fatalities have fallen by almost twenty-five percent in the last ten years alone – despite more miles being driven each year.
Nevertheless, traffic fatalities and injuries are never acceptable. The industry works every day to find solutions to such tragedies. As vehicle technology becomes more complex and global suppliers support multiple auto manufacturers worldwide, it is important that we continue to work together to find better ways to ensure the safety and security of our customers.
The Association of Global Automakers represents international motor vehicle manufacturers, original equipment suppliers, and other automotive-related trade associations. We work with industry leaders, legislators, and regulators to create the kind of public policy that improves vehicle safety, encourages technological innovation, and protects our planet. Our goal is to foster a competitive environment in which more vehicles are designed and built to enhance Americans’ quality of life. For more information, visit www.globalautomakers.org.
