“Automakers are committed to the goals of the national greenhouse gas program, and continue to offer more fuel-efficient vehicle choices than ever before. Yet, market conditions today are very different from when the standards were developed five years ago.

“The midterm review of the 2022-2025 light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas and fuel economy standards is a critical reality check to reexamine the initial assumptions and their impact on the feasibility of the national program. Today’s release of the Draft Technical Assessment Report is an important first step in the review.

“As we continue to work with the agencies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we must ensure that the standards take into account what consumers are likely to buy.”
