WASHINGTON, DC, JANUARY 7, 2013 – The Association of Global Automakers commends the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the release of their notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on effective noise standards for quiet vehicles.  As our members continue to bring more fuel efficient hybrids and electric vehicles to the market place, we recognize the importance of setting industry-wide noise standards for pedestrian safety.  In 2010, the Association worked closely with the National Federation of the Blind, the American Council of the Blind, and other auto industry groups to secure passage of the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act which directed NHTSA to undertake this rulemaking. We look forward to reviewing the NPRM and continuing to collaborate with NHTSA on this issue.

The Association of Global Automakers represents international motor vehicle manufacturers, original equipment suppliers, and other automotive-related trade associations. We work with industry leaders, legislators, and regulators to create the kind of public policy that improves vehicle safety, encourages technological innovation, and protects our planet. Our goal is to foster a competitive environment in which more vehicles are designed and built to enhance Americans’ quality of life. For more information, visit www.globalautomakers.org.
