Statement by John Bozzella, President and CEO of Global Automakers and Spokesperson for Here For America

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 30, 2018 – “An integrated North American automotive market has been key to the success of production in the United States.  We hope the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will support a vibrant future auto market, but the implications of additional costs associated with the complexity and rigidity of the new automotive rules are not yet clear. “At a time when steel and aluminum tariffs have substantially increased auto manufacturing costs in the United States, it is unfathomable that this important issue has not been resolved in the context of these negotiations.  Any additional tariffs on autos and auto parts as a result of the 232 investigation currently underway will multiply the harm to the industry.”
