“Today major automakers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) joined together to announce a  commitment to make automatic emergency braking (AEB) a standard feature on virtually all new passenger vehicles starting no later than September 1, 2022.

“Over half of new vehicle models today offer AEB as standard or optional equipment.  This technology brings consumers improved safety benefits that should help significantly lessen crashes and we expect will provide incentives for insurance companies to reduce premiums.

“Our members continue to strive toward the goal of zero traffic fatalities and are forging ahead in the development of new active and connected safety technologies.”
