Global Automakers submitted testimony in opposition to Maryland HB 1104 on March 1.  The bill seeks to prohibit manufacturers from requiring dealers to share any consumer data from their data management systems.  HB 1104 would hamper a manufacturer’s ability to contact consumers concerning vehicle safety recalls, thus compromising consumer safety.  Additionally, the bill would be harmful to consumers as it will prevent customers from receiving valuable information from manufacturers concerning their vehicles.   HB 1104 has nothing to do with protecting consumer privacy; instead, it has everything to do with dealers attempting to horde customer data for their own profit to the detriment of manufacturers and consumers.
