On January 21, a coalition consisting of Global Automakers, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, California New Car Dealers Association, and UAW Region 5, sent a letter to California state senators and assembly members to issue their opposition to a bill that would promote non-OEM crash parts as the functional equivalent of OEM parts. The coalition asserted that the current law promotes transparency and fair business practices, that imitation parts are not equivalent, that they may impair warranties, and that they may not integrate properly with the increasingly complex systems of new vehicles.
