Global Automakers filed comments jointly with the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers responding to NHTSA's NPRM to establish minimum sound requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles. While supporting the intent of the NPRM, Global Automakers and Alliance members have serious concerns with the the requirements as proposed in terms of customer acceptance and technical practicability. The joint comment provides recommendations to NHTSA intended to address these concerns and avoid mandating alert sounds that would be louder than necessary, create driver and occupant annoyance, and cost more than necessary for the intended purpose. A copy of the comment is attached.
