On July 21st the California Air Resources Board (CARB or ARB) held a public meeting to hear an update on the joint Draft Technical Assessment Report (TAR) for the Midterm Evaluation (MTE) of the 2022-2025 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) standards and Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards for light-duty vehicles. Global Automakers provided testimony at this meeting focusing on four key points:
- Our continued support of the MTE as a necessary and the importance of having a single national program;
- This is just the first step in a longer process which will require more evaluations of the assumptions made and their greater implications;
- The need to consider the consumer's willingness to adopt more technologies; and
- A concern regarding alignment between the ARB and federal processes since the next ARB meeting is in December 2016, well before the next federal milestone in 2017.
