The Association of Global Automakers' Manager of Environment and Energy, Amandine Muskus, provided remarks at the California Department of Toxic Substance Control's (DTSC) public workshop on lead-acid batteries.

Global Automakers shared four major considerations that DTSC should consider in evaluating these batteries:

  1. Lead-acid batteries have a long-proven safety record in numerous applications that go beyond just motor vehicle use;
  2. Lead-acid batteries are meticulously managed through a robust regulatory framework;
  3. Lead-acid batteries do not have economically and technically feasible alternatives; and
  4. Lead-acid batteries are needed to support California's goals of reducing greenhouse gases.
