ARLINGTON, VA — The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, Inc. (AIAM) today released the following statement regarding the new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for MY (model year) 2011 passenger cars and light trucks released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The following statement can be attributed to Michael J. Stanton, President and CEO of AIAM.

“As an industry that requires long lead times for product and technology development, we’re pleased we now have the final MY2011 CAFE standards for automobiles and light trucks from NHTSA.

“Moving forward to further reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increase vehicle fuel efficiency, we encourage NHTSA and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work closely together to harmonize and finalize standards through the 2016 model year.

“AIAM member companies have pledged to meet or exceed these new standards. The sooner we know what they will be, the better we can implement them.”
