Statement by Global Automakers' President and CEO Michael J. Stanton on IIHS New Crash Test

WASHINGTON, DC, DECEMBER 20, 2012 - In response to today's Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Plus+ award in the new small overlap test, Global Automakers shares the Institute's commitment to raising the bar in improving vehicle safety. The Association believes consumers should have information about crash protection so they can make educated buying decisions.

While not all vehicles have been tested for the Top Safety Pick Plus+ designation, it is important to note that new vehicles continue to score highly in the IIHS high-speed frontal and side crash tests, as well as in rollover and rear impact tests. Our members have and continue to invest billions of dollars developing and implementing advanced safety technologies, making current models among the safest vehicles ever made.
