The Association of Global Automakers (Global Automakers) applauds Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy’s announcement of an additional $2.7 million for the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) program.

“Point-of-sale vehicle rebates are one of the most effective consumer incentives and we commend Governor Malloy for his work on the CHEAPR program,” said Damon Porter, Director of State Affairs for Global Automakers. “In order to meet our shared goal of building a sustainable green car market, the state has to continue to increase its investment to reach its mandated zero emission vehicle (ZEV) sales goals.”

Connecticut was one of eight states that signed a 2013 Memorandum of Understanding[1] (MOU), committing to support, promote, and ensure a robust market for ZEVs.  CHEAPR currently offers rebates of up to $5,000 for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease a new eligible battery electric, plug-in hybrid electric or fuel cell electric vehicles

“Growing the ZEV market is a shared responsibility,” said Porter.  “Automakers continue to make huge investments in advanced technologies and we encourage the state of Connecticut to increase its investment during the upcoming legislative session.”
