The Association of Global Automakers and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers submitted comments to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC's) on July 2, 2014 on the FTC's notice of proposed rulemaking for Automotive Fuel Ratings, Certification and Posting. The Associations strongly supported the FTC's proposal to;
- Establish appropriate rating and certification requirements for alternative fuels
- Provide needed information to consumers through the use of labeling at the fuel pump about the products offered for purchase
- Help purchasers identify the correct fuel for their vehicles to minimize mis-fueling.
The Associations also recommended that the FTC include additional content on the labels to help prevent mis-fueling. Finally, the Associations supported adding the proposed infrared octane test method for compliance use.
